Overview
Winkler County was created from Tom Green County in 1887, organized in 1910 and was named after C. M. Winkler. A Colonel on the Confederate Army, member of the Texas Legislature and Justice on the Court of Civil Appeals.

- Kermit Schools (Pre-Kindergarten - 12th grade): is located on 3 different campus's. Pre-k through 5th is located in one new building on the north-east side of town. Junior High Consist of 6th - 8th grades and the High school across the street is 9th - 12th. Currently there is 1 Football field, 1 practice field, 1 baseball field, 1 softball field, 1 batting range, 3 practice gyms, 3 competition basketball gyms, 2 tracks, 4 tennis courts, and a large weight room. The elementary has a cafetorium, the Junior High has a concert stage and the High school has a commons area and theatre auditorium. Each campus also has fully equipped libraries with computerized card catalog, automated book check-out and media centers.
- Wink Schools(Pre-Kindergarten - 12th grade): is located in Wink. Included: 1 football field, 1 practice field, 1 track, 1 indoor competition swimming pool, 3 competition gyms, 1 practice gym, 2 large weight rooms and 2 tennis courts. Also included is a huge auditorium used by all grades for ceremonies and events.
- Odessa College and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin(Odessa) : is located just 45 miles northeast of Kermit, on HWY 302.
- Midland College(Midland): is located just 10 miles northeast of Odessa on I-20.
- Sandhills Park located at the edge of town is 20 miles wide and 100 miles long. Our sand dunes draw ATVers and is our greatest natural resource for tourism.
- Golf Course - An open 9 hole golf course with plenty of green. County-owned golf course 7 miles west on Texas 302.
- Winkler County Park offers picnicking, athletic courts, Open daily. Four blocks north of Texas 302 at east limits.

- Medallion Home(Kermit) - City's oldest existing structure furnished with period pieces. Open weekdays 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Sun. 3 - 5 p m North side of Winkler County Park.
- Pioneer Park(Kermit) - Outdoor museum includes Moorhead Derrick, a cable tool derrick with walking beam. Last active equipment of its type; was in operation until 1966. Other items are oldest house in Kermit, and "nester's shack" which were moved to site.
